Cages:
When dogs are waiting to be groomed or have just been groomed, they should be placed in a cage suitable for their size. Having a variety of cages on hand will provide you with plenty of room to keep dogs safe from one another. Many dogs feel safer when placed in a cage if they are in a strange place.
Dryers:
Powerful dryers are needed to make sure a newly groomed dog is completely dry before he heads home. There are hand-held dryers and others sitting next to the cage and blows warm air onto the dog. Some groomers start off with the hand-held dryer and then place dogs with extra thick fur in front of a cage dryer as well.
Tables:
All sizes of dogs are easier groomed when placed on a table top. Groomers usually have special tables that can be raised up and down, making it adjustable for the size of dog being groomed. Some tables spin, like a giant lazy Susan, and most have some sort of pole attached to them for the dog lead to be connected to.
Tubs:
Most grooming tubs are on tall legs, to make it easier on the human doing the bathing and a high back to keep most of the water in the tub. There are special tubs for larger dogs that have ramps going up to them. This makes it easier to get bigger dogs into the tub without injuring your back by lifting them up into the tub.
Sprayers:
Grooming dogs requires a serious sprayer. These usually have large heads on them with tons of holes to make the water stream out in a steady stream, but not so forcefully that it is uncomfortable for the dog.
Clippers:
Dog hair requires special clippers, due to its thickness. Clippers made for grooming dogs can withstand many hours of usage, so they won’t burn up after trimming just one dog.
Brushes and Combs:
Metal teeth are very common in dog brushes and combs. Fur is often too thick or course for a normal hairbrush to be used on it. These also usually have wide handles for better gripping of the brush or comb.
Extra Cleaning Equipment:
Some owners want their dog’s teeth brushed or ears cleaned. These two tasks require special equipment that can be purchased from the same places that care all the other types of grooming supplies.
Nail Care Equipment:
Having a variety of nail trimmers on hand is useful if you are planning on grooming different sized dogs. Styptic powder is for dipping the tips of freshly clipped toenails, in order to keep bleeding to a minimum and avoid infection.
Dog grooming equipment consists of many tools and a lot of supplies. In order to cut down on initial cost, most groomers will start of with basic equipment and slowly work up to getting more advanced items later.
